Rare Antique 1899 BPOE Elks Lodge Sterling Silver & Enamel Match Safe

This stunning sterling silver B.P.O.E. (Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks) pocket match safe from 1899 depicts a combination of fine repoussé work of an elk figural with a circular enamel piece illustrating 11th hour on a Roman numerical clock in rich cobalt blue.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is an American fraternal order and social club founded in 1868. It is one of the leading fraternal orders in the U.S., claiming nearly one million members.
The match safe carries the hallmark from its manufacturer, the Simons Brothers of Philadelphia with a November 14, 1899 patent date and signature around the inside lip.
This beautiful and rare 1899 B.P.O.E Elk Lodge Figural Elk Tooth match safe is in excellent condition for its age with a few shallow dents on the sterling silver body and a perfect shape and finish on the enamel clock. The striker is conveniently situated on the reverse part of the hinged lid.
It measures 65 mm x 40 mm and weighs 21.80 grams.
